Abstract

An infrared camera-trapping survey was conducted in the Makehe Forest Area of Banma County, Qinghai Province, China, from January to June 2026 (16 870 camera-days in total). During the data analysis, the masked palm civet (Paguma larvata) was photographed from two sites at altitudes of 3 462. 0 m and 3 326. 3 m, respectively. This discovery marked the first confirmed record of the species Paguma larvata and the family Viverridae in Qinghai Province. Furthermore, the recorded altitude of 3 462. 0 m significantly extended the known upper altitudinal limit of the species, which was previously documented at 2 700 m.
